Expanding the Campaign to the SunSentinel Blog

by Jason on July 25, 2010

While the Campaign to Elect Jason Weakley to the Florida House of Representatives officially began in late June, the SunSentinel has now offered blogs to all candidates – so here we are!

Over the next 14 weeks I plan to share my ideas with you, and hear yours as well. Some of the main topics I will be focusing on are creating jobs in Florida to rebuild the economy, as well as taming out of control spending. There are deep problems in our society and none of them are helped by a bad economy and a nation divided over how to solve its problems. As someone who has lost his job in this economy, I have firsthand experience of the frustrations and worries this economy brought us.

I am also passionately concerned about the state of corruption in government. Its downright obscene! I am also deeply concerned about the state of education. We cannot keep the American experiment alive, nor can we compete in the global marketplace if Florida doesn’t have a world-class K-12 educational system. Florida is one of four states that are home to larger populations of young people. As one of those students who attended public middle and high school in Broward County I can tell you, we must do better!

Unlike some of the portrayals of Tea Party activists you may have seen on television, I am not a right wing fundamentalist with wild conspiracy theories. I am simply tired of seeing no one else acting on the common sense ideas that will improve our country and our state. Someone needs to stand up and bring rational thinking back into our government. I hope to do something about it at the state level for Florida.

My campaign will only succeed however with your enthusiastic support. It is not about me, it is about you. If We the People are going to change the political status quo, if you want more long-term job creation, if you want Florida (and America) to get better, then I need your help! Subscribe to the email list, donate to the campaign, and join me online through various social media sites.

Because this is my first time running for office, it is a learning process for me too. I don’t claim to know about all the shady and illicit affairs of our state and local governments, but I am willing to do something about it when I see it – and I promise not to be tainted by it, but I need your support. This is not a normal election; I am an average guy with better than average ideas about how to make this state and country great again. But I cannot do it alone.

I would love to hear from you if you have ideas and plans for improving Florida. I am willing to work with whomever has the elbow grease to make it happen.

In Liberty,
Jason B. Weakley
